The Ending of Mark – April 20, 2025
This morning, we finish a 14-month sermon series in the Gospel of Mark. But where should that study end? The final chapter of Mark ends in different ways in different ancient manuscripts around the world—so which of them is the original?
In this single session, we look at the reasons for suspecting Mark 16:9-20 is not original to the book. Following the work of N. Clayton Croy in his book The Mutilation of Mark, we also find good reason for thinking that Mark 1:1-3 is not the original beginning of the book either.
In the sermon series, we ended our study at Mark 16:8, but earlier that morning we considered what verses 9-20 have to say.
