What We Believe

God

We believe there is one, eternal God who created and now directs the world. He loves each and every one of us and takes an active part in guiding our lives. We learn about God and what He desires for us by studying the Bible. God, the father, co-exists with his son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1:26-27 | Deuteronomy 6:4 | Job 38 | John 3:16 | Romans 1:19-20 | 2 Corinthians 13:14 | Ephesians 4:6

Jesus

Jesus has always been with God, even during the creation of our world. When God created the world, it was perfect, and God had rules in place to help keep the world good. However, human beings began to follow their own desires. Even the first person created, Adam, followed his desires instead of how God wanted him to live. You see, God gave us the ability to choose to love and follow him or not. God gave all human beings the freedom to live life however they choose. It is natural that people sometimes choose to live their own lives as they want instead of the better way God wants us to live. Although these actions might help people feel better for a time, these actions were also spiritually, physically, and emotionally destructive.

We call these actions that go against God’s desires sin, and that sin separates people from God. Every Christian, no matter how good they are, is incapable of being perfect. We realize that. We are incapable of living the life God wants us to all of the time, loving people all of the time, and never hurting those around us. Our own desires sometimes take over, and that sin causes us to be separated from God. But God saw this, and God made a way for reconciliation in our relationship.

Jesus came to earth to teach us how God wants us to live. His teachings are recorded in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John of the Bible. We call these books the Gospels. At the end of his ministry, Jesus was killed on a cross. His death paid the penalty for our sins and gave us the ability to have a relationship with God despite all of our shortcomings. And although he had been executed, three days after he was killed, Jesus was brought back to life and walked the earth before finally going to Heaven. Because of his life on earth, his death, and his resurrection from death, everyone who believes in Jesus can also go to Heaven after they die.

Matthew 1:22-23 | John 1:1, 14, 18 | Acts 10:37-43 | 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 | Ephesians 2:4-8 | Philippians 2:5-11 | Colossians 1:15-21 | Hebrews 1:1-3

Holy Spirit

Sometimes we do not know what God wants us to do as we live our lives, but we do not have to do this all alone. The Holy Spirit helps guide us similar to conscience or inner voice. This spirit provides us the willpower and knowledge to live our lives as God wants us to so that we can be spiritually, physically, and emotionally healthy.

John 14:16-17 | John 16:7-13 | Acts 2:38 | 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 | Ephesians 3:16-20 | Ephesians 5:18

The Bible

The Bible is a collection of writings from throughout time that we believe was inspired by God. That is why we call the Bible, “His Word.” We believe the Bible tells truth and is completely factual. It tells us who God is, why he loves us, and what his plans for humanity are. The Bible is also authoritative, meaning it gives us the standard for living our lives according to God’s will for us.

Psalm 19:7-11 | Psalm 119:105 | John 17:17 | 1 Thessalonians 2:13 | 2 Timothy 3:16-17 | 2 Peter 1:20-21

The Church

The church is not a building. The church is people who are united in their beliefs in God and in Jesus coming together. When we do get together, it is all about relationships. When we get together, we encourage and support one another. We also sing with each other so that we are not only emotionally uplifted but also show God our love for Him. We are also learning about the Bible and the guidelines God has laid out for us so that we can live a better life. We get together outside of our worship service as well. God has blessed us with talents that are a practical way to help the people who live around us, and we want to put those gifts to use. The church is here to do God’s work. Whether it be feeding families in need, helping with working on houses or even helping financially in times of need, we are here.

Matthew 16:15-18 | John 17:20-23 | John 13:34-35 | Acts 2:42-47 | 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 | Ephesians 1:22-23 | Ephesians 2:19-22 | 1 Peter 2:4-10

Eternity

God created us all with an inner soul that will never die. Although our physical bodies may pass, our spiritual souls will live forever. We believe that the people who reject this way of life are separated from God by their sin and cannot be reunited with God in Heaven. Because of that separation, they must spend eternity in Hell, a very real place.

We desire to spend eternity in Heaven, reunited with God just as Jesus was. We desire to be reunited with all of God’s believers who have died before us. All of our grandparents, parents, brothers, and sisters, sons and daughters who believed in Jesus will all be together again one day, despite their physical deaths here on earth.
